About Abbots End Lodge

Abbots End Lodge provides luxury accommodation at an affordable price.

Situated in quiet, peaceful surroundings with everything at your fingertips.

The Lodge is in a separate annexed building above the barn garage, where you'll have your own key to come and go as you please. There is easy, off-road parking provided for one car only.

We are very lucky to have many different birds nesting near us, so it's fun to watch the swallows, blue tits, pied wag-tails, and robins come and go from the Lodge windows.

The Surrounding Area - Situated 2 minutes walk from the river Great Ouse, there are many lovely country walks along the river and across the nature reserves. You can hire small boats and rowing boats from nearby Houghton Mill (National Trust), or Hartford Marina and travel up the river.

The Lodge offers very easy access to The Great Ouse and the river meadow is perfect for picnics in the summer by the river's edge.

If you want to cycle or run we can suggest plenty of interesting routes. If swimming, wake-boarding or paddle boarding is your thing, Lake Ashmore is around the corner (approx 0.75 mile), where you can hire equipment, have lunch and enjoy the lake for a few hours, or all day.

Shops - We have a local village shop which supplies all the food and drinks you could ever need. They even do the COOK range of food if you want to stay in and use the microwave! Otherwise, Cambridge is up the road and St.Ives is a 2 mile walk or short drive away.

Pubs - There are two pubs in Hemingford, 'The Cock' in Hemingford Grey, and 'The Axe and Compass' in Hemingford Abbots. Both serve good food and beers and feature gardens for when the sun is shining!

There's a market held in St.Ives every Monday with a smaller market on Fridays, and a Farmers market on the first and third Saturday of the month. St.Ives has some lovely independent shops and cafes.

Cambridge is a 20 minute journey in the car, or 30-40 mins on the guided bus route, which takes you direct from St.Ives into Cambridge town centre (free parking). London is accessible easily by train from Huntingdon station, which is only a 7 minute journey away. The Huntingdon to London journey takes about 50 minutes.

Addenbrookes Hospital "Virtual Ward" - For patients looking for quiet accommodation to recuperate whilst pending discharge from Addenbrookes' virtual ward, Abbots End Lodge is a very good choice according to previous hospital guests.

Please note: The lodge is in the eaves so please just be mindful of this if you're over 6ft tall!

Also, we are not The Lodge at Hemingford Grey House.

The Cock

The Cock (National Pub of the year twice in the last decade) is a country pub and restaurant serving modern British fayre. Expect first rate food and drink in traditional surroundings and al fresco dining in the lovely garden.

The Cock sits close to the Great Ouse river in the lovely village of Hemingford Grey and is about 7 minutes walk from Abbots End Lodge.

See a review from the Guardian here.

A traditional country pub, The Cock has a separate entrance from the restaurant, serves local real ales and village cider in comfortable surroundings. There are some lovely riverside walks along the Ouse River up to Houghton Mill and through Hemingford Abbots. They welcome dogs in the pub side but not in the restaurant.

The Axe & Compass

The Axe & Compass is a typical English Country Pub offering real ales, fine wines and freshly prepared quality food. There’s something for everyone!

Dating back to the 15th century, this picturesque pub is located in the beautiful village of Hemingford Abbots. Situated just off the A14, 3 miles from St Ives, 6 miles from Huntingdon and 12 miles from Cambridge, we are perfectly placed for our locals, business people, tourists, walkers and cyclists. Wherever possible they try to source their food from local suppliers.
